Meet our brilliant minds

Miss Mazvita Shonhiwa

Founder And Executive Director

Mazvita Shonhiwa is the Founder and Executive Director for Communities Against Drug And Substance Abuse Trust. She is a Social Scientist who holds a Bsc Honours Degree in Sociology and Gender Studies with Women’s University in Africa. Mazvita also holds a Business Management Diploma with the Northern Kentucky University in Kentucky, USA and a Project and Programming Monitoring and Evaluation Professional Qualification from the University of Zimbabwe

Mazvita has experience working with NGOs in both Zimbabwe and America. She has always enjoyed volunteering whether with kids at a Children’s Home, in her church with Sunday Schoolers or at a Retirement Home reading to Nursing Home clients. She is proud to mention that she has volunteered and worked with both YMCA Zimbabwe and YMCA Cincinnati, Ohio.

Mazvita has lived in both the United States of America and Zimbabwe and has been able to see how drugs cut across race, class and creed. Drugs ruin families of the rich same way they ruin families of the poor. Drugs are just as present in the Developing world the same way they are in the Developed world! The only difference is in the Developing world, to be specific Zimbabwe, there are no proper structures to help the people who have been exposed to drugs.

It is because of this gap that Miss Shonhiwa saw it necessary to start a charitable organisation that works with and alongside the community to curb the drug and substance abuse challenge in Zimbabwe.

During her spare time, Mazvita enjoys doing anything that involves spending time with daughter Pearl Shonhiwa (Pearly Pearl), the love of her life.
